2 shot in separate Statesville incidents

PRESS RELEASE

On February 21st, 2016 at 7:35 p.m. Statesville Police officers responded to a report of a subject being shot at an abandoned home in the 1800 block of E. Greenbriar Road in Statesville. Officers arrived and found the victim, Samuel Nichols, 26, of Statesville, lying on the back porch of the residence. Officers discovered that Nichols had been shot at least twice and called for EMS to transport him to the hospital. While waiting for EMS, officers attempted to gather information about what lead to the shooting.

Officers learned that Nichols and several other people had been playing cards at the rear of another
address 1800 block of E. Greenbriar Road. They eventually moved the game to the abandoned house where Nichols was found. Officers were told that while the group was playing cards, a short, light skinned black male entered the residence and shot a firearm at the group and Nichols was struck by several bullets. The black male then fled on foot from the area. Statesville Police Officers, along with an Iredell County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit, attempted a K-9 track for the suspect but were unsuccessful.

Nichols was struck at least twice and had injuries to his chest and leg. EMS arrived and Nichols was transported to Charlotte Medical Center where he is being treated for injuries sustained from the shooting.

The Statesville Police Department Criminal Investigations Division was called to the scene to take over the investigation.

Victim shot by man demanding money

PRESS RELEASE

On February 21st, 2016 at 10:36 p.m. Officers responded to the 1700 block of Wedgedale Avenue in Statesville for a report of a subject being shot. Officers arrived and found the victim, Reginald Goodson, 45 of Statesville, with a gunshot wound to his leg. Goodson told officers that he was in his home when he heard someone knocking on his front door. Goodson said he went to the front door and when he opened the door a black male was standing outside. Goodson said that the man started demanding his money and his wallet and Goodson refused. The suspect then pointed a gun at Goodson and fired one shot, striking Goodson in the leg. Goodson told officers that the suspect then ran from the area and got into a vehicle and left. Goodson could not provide officers with a good description of the suspect or the vehicle he left in.

EMS was called to the scene and Goodson was transported to Iredell Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Statesville Police Department Criminal Investigations were called to the scene to take over the investigation.
