Highway Patrol: Hit-and-run preceded fatal US 70 accident



The Highway patrol says the car containing the two individuals killed in this morning’s fatal US 70 accident was involved in a hit-and-run just moments before the fatal collision.

First Sergeant Brian Owenby says Saypasong Sayavong and Olivia Harris were killed after their vehicle crossed the center line and hit a slow moving semi truck traveling east.

He says the hit-and-run happened about a half a mile away involving another semi. There’s no word presently on why the car crossed the center line. Owenby simply says something caused the vehicle to jerk to the left.

Both individuals killed are said to have been in a relationship. This morning’s accident happened around 8:45 near Statesville City limits.
