After months of searching the Town of Troutman is pleased to announce that Tina Fleming will be our next Chief. Fleming is the current Director of the Basic Law Enforcement Training Center at Mitchell Community College, a position she has held for the last 13 years. During this time, she has trained many of the officers that have joined our department and other jurisdictions in the greater Iredell County area. Fleming begins her new role as Chief after an already lengthy tenure at Troutman Police Department. She has worked for the Department forthe past 16-years as a part-time Patrol Officer.
Fleming started her law enforcement career with Wilkesboro Police Department before moving up through the ranks in the Mooresville Police Department ultimately reaching the rank of Lieutenant. Additionally, she worked for the Forensic Tests for Alcohol Branch at the Department of Health and Human Services. Fleming has her B.S. in Criminal Justice from Gardner-Webb and her A.A.S. in Law Enforcement Technology from Forsyth Technical Community College. She also has been awarded her Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate from the State of North Carolina. Fleming has extensive training in leadership, organizational management, community relations, applied police and criminal justice training, drug education, communications, and records retention and maintenance.
Her first day as Chief will be October 14th, though she will work a limited number of hours per week as she completes the semester at Mitchell. This ramping up period will help the department and Fleming transition and ensure that both are adequately prepared once the change is effective on a permanent basis.
