Thousands without power across region after storm brings heavy rain, strong winds

STATESVILLE, N.C. (WSIC NEWS) – Thousands are without power across the WSIC listening area as a severe storm moves thru Saturday night.

Duke Energy has nearly 1,500 outages in Iredell and just over 1,500 outages in Mecklenburg County as of about 10:30 Saturday night. There are 2,845 outages in Catawba County and 1,336 in Lincoln County. EnergyUnited has more than 2,600 outages in Iredell County.

There are large pockets of outages centered in North Iredell and on the west side Lake Norman. Scanner reports indicated numerous calls to 911 for downed trees.

The listening area is under a tornado watch until 12 a.m. Sunday.
