Leaders of the Carolina BalloonFest continue their search for a new site where they can host the event.
Featuring more than 50 balloons each year, Carolina BalloonFest draws some 30,000 people to Statesville in mid-October. Executive Director Bud Welch says they hope 2018 will be the last year the event is hosted at the Statesville Regional Airport before moving to its own permanent home.
Committee members were out as recent as Sunday browsing property. They hope to find something inside Statesville City limits and invite suggestions from the public. About 100 acres is needed to successfully host the event.
