ROWAN COUNTY, N.C. (WSIC NEWS) The Rowan County Little League girls softball team will be recognized at the White House for its World Series win.

The Rowan County Little League shared a screenshot on Facebook Wednesday morning showing an email in which a White House staffer confirmed the invite. Congressmen Ted Budd and Richard Hudson wrote a joint letter to President Trump encouraging him to recognize the team at the White House.

“I want to thank President Trump for inviting our Rowan County Little League Softball team to the White House for this incredible honor,” said Hudson in a statement. “These young ladies are world champions and deserve a national celebration.”

The girls beat a team from Louisiana 4-1 in the game played earlier this month.  Three of the team members are Mooresville Middle School students.
