Panthers sign Colin Jones to 2-year contract

The Carolina Panthers have signed safety Colin Jones to a two-year contract, the team announced Monday. Jones was slated to become an unrestricted free agent on Wednesday.

Jones enters his ninth NFL season and eighth with the Panthers. Last season he played in all 16 games, while tallying 14 tackles on defense and one interception.

Carolina’s special teams captain in 2018, Jones tied for the team lead with six special teams tackles and also recovered a fumble for a touchdown in punt coverage against the New York Giants (10/7/18).

In seven seasons with the Panthers, Jones has tallied 78 career tackles on defense with three interceptions. He has 52 career special teams tackles with Carolina, tying for ninth in franchise history.

Jones was originally drafted by San Francisco in the sixth round of the 2011 NFL Draft out of TCU.
