7 high school basketball teams qualify for state playoffs

The N.C. High School Athletic Association released playoff brackets for the state playoffs on Sunday evening. Iredell County had seven qualifiers.

First-round games are scheduled to get under way Tuesday night.

Statesville’s boys are the No. 7 seed in the 3A West. The Greyhounds (18-6), regular-season champions of the North Piedmont Conference, open at home against No. 26 Concord (11-13). The winner advances to play either No. 10 Weddington (19-7) or No. 23 Sun Valley (16-11).

Lake Norman’s boys are the No. 16 seed in the 4A West. The Wildcats (14-11) host No. 17 South Meck (12-11) in the first round. The winner moves on to play at top seed North Meck (26-1).

In the 1A West bracket, Pine Lake Prep (17-9) is seeded 12th. The Pride host Kernersville Bishop McGuinness (12-12) in the first round. The winner will play either No. 5 Hayesville (23-3) or No. 28 Swain County (14-10) in the second round.

Four Iredell County girls basketball teams qualified for the state playoffs.

Langtree Charter (25-4) was the highest seed. Langtree is the 10th seed in the 1A West and will open at home against Starmount (6-17). The winner will play the winner of No. 7 Highlands (15-11) and No. 26 Bessemer City (11-11) in the second round.

Also in 1A, Pine Lake Prep is the No. 32 seed in the West. The Pride (7-18) opens on the road against top seed Murphy (25-0).

South Iredell is the No. 32 seed in the 3A West. The Vikings travel to Morganton to take on top seed Freedom (25-0) in the first round. The winner will play either No. 16 Forestview (19-8) or No. 17 Cox Mill (14-12).

Lake Norman’s girls (15-9) drew the No. 15 seed in the 4A West. The Wildcats host No. 18 West Forsyth (15-10) in the first round. The winner plays at No. 2 Kernersville Glenn (23-1) in the second round.
