At Monday’s night’s meeting, Statesville City Council members finalized the annexation of the Statesville Auto Auction property off I-77 at exit 54 and passed the first reading of the annexation of property off I-40 at exit 154 (Old Mocksville Rd.). Both annexations are voluntary satellite annexations. The annexed Auto Auction property is valued at $16 million. The I-40 annexation is for the development of 52.7 acres by Carolina RV along Martin Lane. The value of the property and facility once completed is estimated to be $7.3 million.
Council also passed the first reading of a request to rezone the Martin Lane property from Iredell County Residential Agricultural and Suburban Residential to Statesville Highway Business District. Plans are to place a RV sales and service business on the property.
Two highlights of the meeting were the attendance of fifth grade students from Scotts Elementary School to lead the pledge of allegiance and the standing ovation given to the Statesville Sanitation Division in recognition their service and the forthcoming observance of National Garbage Collectors Day in Statesville on June 17.
All items on the agenda were approved unanimously.
The next regular meeting is June 18, 2018. Council will also meet in a special budget work session on Thursday, June 7, at 3 p.m. in the second floor training room of the City Office Building, 301 S. Center St.
