Statesville’s Mayor election is not over – according to the Iredell County Board of Elections, Michael Johnson has indicated he plans to seek a runoff with incumbent Costi Kutteh.

That’s not been made official as of yet – the Board of Elections has to have it in writing for that to be the case. Johnson reportedly gave a verbal commitment last night. We’ve reached-out to Johnson seeking additional information.

Johnson was 113 votes behind Kutteh who had forty percent of those cast. Early voting for a runoff would start next Thursday with the election being held November 4th alongside those taking place in Mooresville.

According to the Board of Elections, Dr. Michael Schlesinger is allowed a runoff, but has opted not to pursue it. Steve Johnson and William Morgan were the top vote getters in that race for two at-large seats.

Jap Johnson will keep his ward two seat. Doris Allison won in ward three, John Stafford in ward five.
