I-SS Board nominates replacement for Haynes seat

Mr. Samuel Kennington was nominated and approved by the Iredell-Statesville Schools Board of Education to replace Board Member Cindy Haynes (District 3) in a special election on October 2, 2017. He was sworn in at the regularly scheduled Board of Education meeting Monday, October 9, 2017.

Mr. Kennington received his Bachelor’s from East Carolina University, his MS in Educational Administration from North Carolina A & T, and his Ed.S. (Educational Specialist) in Educational Administration from Appalachian State University.

Mr. Kennington has been in public education for thirty-four years, beginning as a teacher and moving through the ranks to principal and then Vocational Education Director for Iredell-Statesville Schools. This commitment to service, coupled with experience as a former county commissioner and executive director for a non-profit has given Mr. Kennington the experience and vision to know what staff, students, and parents need and expect.

Mr. Kennington brings a variety of skill sets to the position of District 3 representative for the Iredell-Statesville Schools Board of Education. “My love for children will always prepare me to make decisions that are in the best interst of our students, staff and parents,” he said.
