Sheriff Darren Campbell stated On Thursday, September 12, 2019, the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office received a report in reference to a possible assault on a handicapped child at Cloverleaf Elementary School in prior school years.
The report was filed by a therapist who had spoken with several children from the same classroom. According to the initial report, multiple children reported being picked up, and placed in a trash can or recycle bin.
The report was assigned to Detective P. Dixson of the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Special Victim’s Unit. Detective Dixson interviewed numerous witnesses, and gathered pertinent items of evidence.
According to evidence gathered, the assaults occurred during the 2017-2018, and 2018-2019 school years when Robin Johnson was the teacher assigned to the EC classroom at Cloverleaf Elementary School. The evidence gathered indicates on at least two occasions, Johnson placed a handicapped student into a trashcan.
After a comprehensive investigation, Detective Dixon was able to obtain arrest warrants for two counts of Misdemeanor Assault on a Handicapped Person against Robin Lorraine Johnson.
Johnson was arrested on Thursday, October 17, 2019. She was served with the two warrants. Johnson was then taken before Magistrate P. Tutterrow who issued a 20,000.00 dollar unsecured bond on these charges. Johnson was given a initial court date of Monday, November 4, 2019 in District Court in Statesville on these charges.
Robin Lorraine Johnson does not have a prior criminal history.
Statesville, NC –Robin Johnson of Statesville has been charged by the Iredell County Sherriff’s Office with two counts of misdemeanor assault. Ms. Johnson has been employed with the Iredell-Statesville School District since 2008. She has served as a bus driver, receptionist, teacher assistant and teacher at NB Mills Elementary School, East Elementary School, and most recently at Cloverleaf Elementary School.
Having been advised by the Iredell County Sherriff’s Office, Robin Johnson was suspended with pay on October 17, 2019, pending an investigation.
