On March 7, 2019, a report was made to the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office regarding a sexual assault that occurred in 2012 by a teacher against a student who was attending Statesville Christian School. The report was forwarded to the Statesville Police Department for further investigation due to the alleged crime occurring in the city limits.
Members of the Statesville Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division launched an investigation into the claims, conducting interviews and collecting evidence. Based on information gathered during the investigation, it was determined the sexual assault occurred on multiple occasions beginning in February 2012 and continuing through May 2014.
On March 26, 2019, Statesville Police Department Investigators obtained warrants on Derone Martin McNeill, 47, of Victoria Drive, Statesville NC. McNeill has been charged with 26 counts of second-degree rape, 26 counts of second-degree forcible sex offense and 26 counts of sexual activity with a student. Additional charges may be forthcoming from the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office for possible crimes that occurred outside the city limits.
McNeill is currently employed by Pressly Alternative School but was placed on leave immediately upon notification of the sexual assault investigation.
