Woman charged with neglect of elderly person after relative found dead

PRESS RELEASE

On Saturday, June 1, 2019, at approximately 9 PM, Alexander County Communications received a call in reference to a possible overdose. Officers responded to a residence located in the Wittenburg community of Alexander County. After arriving at the residence, officers met with a relative of the homeowner. It was reported to the officers that a 78-year-old white male was locked in the bathroom. Officers made entry into the bathroom of the residence, where they found Timothy Havey, deceased in the bathtub. It was reported that Havey had been in the bathtub for approximately 4-5 hours by the relative, who was looking after Havey. It was reported that Havey had a lengthy medical history.

Subsequent to the investigation, the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office arrested Catarina Hosler, W/F, age 57 of Santa Cruz, California. Hosler is the relative of Havey, mentioned above. Hosler was charged with Felony Neglect of a Disabled/Elderly Person. She was transported to the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office, where she was placed under a $100,000 secured bond with a first appearance date of June 10, 2019 in Alexander County District Court.
