Victim names released in Alexander triple homicide

On Tuesday, June 18th the recovery search resumed at River Bend Park in Catawba County around 8 am. Agencies assisting with the search were the Alexander Co. Sheriff’s Office, Taylorsville Police Dept., Catawba Co. Sheriff’s Office, State Bureau of Investigations and the SBI Cadaver K-9, Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Dept. Cadaver K-9, the NC State Highway Patrol Aviation Unit, Catawba Co. EMS, Sherrill’s Ford Fire and Rescue, Claremont Rescue, Catawba Co. Rescue, Catawba Emergency Services and Alexander Rescue Squad.

Searches on water, land and air were conducted without success at the time of this release. The search was scaled back at approximately 3 pm and leads are continuing to be followed up on at different locations.

Preliminary autopsies were performed today at Baptist Hospital on the victims discovered at the fire scene. Identifications were made by Baptist Hospital and are as follows: Angel E. Pacheco, male age 11 years old. Also identified was America D. Pacheco, female age 12 years old. Their cause of death is pending. Mother of the children, Maria Calderon ,age 38 is still reported as missing and presumed deceased. The Alexander County Sheriff’s Office is requesting anyone with information on her whereabouts to contact them at 828-632-2911 or Crime Stoppers at 828-632-8555.

Authorities are also seeking information on the whereabouts of Jose Carlos Mendez and Luis Fernando Sanchez acquaintances of the missing person. Mr. Mendez and Mr. Sanchez are not considered suspects at this time in the investigation.
