Two charged in Statesville homicide investigation

PRESS RELEASE

On Friday afternoon about 1700 hours, the Statesville Police Department responded to the shooting of Mr. Marcus Jauqice Moore and Mr. Timmy Jaurice Moore in the 400 block of Deaton Street. Upon arriving on scene, we began canvassing and obtained information related to this incident. Mr. Marcus Moore was shot and succumb to his injuries and his brother Mr. Timmy Moore suffered a gunshot wound and is expected to survive. The Statesville Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit (VCU) began investigating all information received about this incident. Through information received, VCU was able to identify Mr. Quiton Que’shon Kasey and Mr. Azontay Vontavius Sherrill as two of the suspects involved in this senseless murder. On Saturday, June 23, 2019, members of the Statesville Police Department’s VCU obtained warrants on Mr. Quinton Que’shon Kasey, 2633 Andes Drive, Statesville NC, D.O.B. 12/04/1999 and Mr. Azontay Vontavius Sherrill, 338 Buffalo Shoals Road, Statesville NC, D.O.B. 03/17/2001 for the homicide of Marcus Jauqice Moore and the injuries to Timmy Jaurice Moore.

Warrants were obtained for Mr. Quinton Kasey and Mr. Azontay Sherrill for felony murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, inflicting serious injury, and two counts each of felony conspiracy. At Saturday at approximately 2217 hrs. members of Statesville Police Department Violent Crime Unit and Patrol Division located Mr. Azontay Sherrill at 1025 Caldwell Street, Statesville NC. At the time of Sherrill’s arrest, a Taurus 111, 9mm handgun was located. Mr. Sherrill was taken before the magistrate and he received no bond. Just after 10:30 pm this evening, Mr. Kasey surrendered to the Statesville Police Department.
