Statesville police officer on paid leave after reporting vehicle stolen New Year’s Day


STATESVILLE, NC (WSIC) – A Statesville officer is on paid leave pending investigations into an incident where another agency says he reported a police vehicle stolen.

According to the Hickory Police Department, Chistopher Rivera reported a City of Statesville police vehicle stolen at 1 a.m. New Year’s Day in the 6000 block of Glenwood Place Court. This is in south Hickory not far off Highway 127. An assault was also reported. The investigation continues and no charges have been filed.

Interim Statesville Police Chief David Onley tells WSIC an internal investigation continues at his agency. The vehicle reported stolen is in the custody of the Statesville Police Department. Onley could not comment on the condition of the vehicle. It is unclear if it was actually stolen or if that was just the initial report.

Rivera could not be reached for comment.
