Statesville man who transported Rowan homicide victim facing drug charge

Investigation into the murder investigation of Lakyn Jade Bailey continues. This murder appears to be the result of a methamphetamine drug deal that turned violent, resulting in Bailey’s shooting death. Through the course of the murder investigation, 41 year old Jason Donald Cranfill, a 41 year old white male of Iredell County, with and address of the Streets of Statesville, has been charged with Felony Possession of Schedule II Controlled Substance Methamphetamine. Jason Cranfill drove the murder victim to the Country Cupboard store after the January 27 incident. He has been placed in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $5,000 secured bond.

On Sunday morning at about 1:30AM, Salisbury City Police were called to the Country Cupboard store, located at 2010 Statesville Blvd to a reported shooting victim in a vehicle. The victim was discovered dead in a vehicle that was driven by a friend of the victim. During the initial investigation, Salisbury City Police determined the incident probably occurred outside the Salisbury city limits, and contacted the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office. RCSO Deputies arrived on the scene, and were joined by RCSO Sheriff’s Detectives, along with SBI agents.

During the course of the investigation the victim was identified, but the nearest relatives of this victim haven’t yet been located. The incident appears to have occurred in the Woodleaf Road area, with the victim receiving a single gunshot wound before being driven to the store where law enforcement was called. This is an ongoing case and is being investigated as a murder.
