Statesville High School placed on lockdown after report of armed individual nearby

PRESS RELEASE

Just before 0900hrs on Tuesday February 5, 2019, SPD Telecommunications received a call reporting a subject carrying a firearm and making threats in the 300 block of Brevard St. Due to the proximity to the campus of Statesville Senior High, a precautionary lockdown of the campus was initiated at approximately 0857hrs, as patrol officers and the Violent Crime Unit responded to the scene.

The subject in question was located at approximately 0920hrs at a residence in the 200 block of Brevard St and questioned by members of the Violent Crime Unit. The subject was cooperative and allowed a consent search of the residence and his person. There were no weapons located. The school lockdown was lifted around 0938hrs when Investigators determined there were no weapons or indications of a threat to the public.

Investigators reported it appeared to stem from a disagreement of a domestic nature between the subject and the caller. There were no charges filed.
