STATESVILLE, NC (WSIC) – An employee of a Statesville day care facility is accused by police of assaulting a child under her care.

A mother called the Statesville Police Department Tuesday to report her 22-month-old child had returned home from the Future Generation Child Development Center on Buffalo Shoals Road with a non-serious injury. The Department of Social Services was also contacted.

Investigators reviewed hours of surveillance footage Tuesday and Wednesday. Lori Turner is accused of hitting the child on one occasion and was charged assault on a child under the age of twelve, a class one misdemeanor. A spokesperson for the Statesville Police Department says the charge would have been a felony had there been serious injury.

Turner was arrested Thursday evening at her Statesville residence and given a $1000 bond. WSIC has left a message with the Future Generation Child Development Center seeking comments on the case.
