PRESS RELEASE

Sheriff Darren Campbell stated on the night of Tuesday September 5th, 2017, Deputies responded to Iredell Memorial Hospital in reference to an assault. When Deputies arrived at the hospital, they found a male victim had been transported to the Emergency Room with serious facial injuries. The victim had been found unconscious and bloody in the kitchen floor of his home on Troy Mill Rd. in northern Iredell County by a friend. The friend was able to get the victim responsive and immediately transported him to the E.R. Deputies were able to speak to the victim at the hospital. The victim told Deputies that he was at home when someone knocked on his door wanting to use the bathroom. The victim said he knew the people and allowed them into his home. The two people he allowed to come in were identified as Abigail Tulbert, 19, and David Waylon Todd Hooker, 18. While the victim was speaking with them, two other subjects forced their way into his home through the front door. The victim told Deputies that the three male subjects then surrounded him in the living room and started a verbal confrontation with him. The victim said he was hit in the back of the head and knocked to the floor. The victim remembers being kicked and hit repeatedly in his head by both John Hooker and David Hooker, who are father and son. The victim stated he went unconscious and didn’t remember anything until his friend found him later that same evening. The victim was treated for his injuries and released from the hospital.

The investigation was forwarded to the Criminal Investigations Division for further investigation. After interviewing witnesses and the victim, Felony warrants were issued for the subjects involved. Warrants were issued for the subjects for the following:
