Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: On Friday, December 28, 2018 the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a person driving on Redeemed Road near Harmony. The caller advised they had observed an unclothed female hiding near the roadway. The reporting person stopped and asked the female if she needed help and she said that she did.  The female was later identified as Dulce Marie-Ruby Martinez.

While the reporting person was attempting to provide assistance, Martinez jumped into his truck and grabbed a handgun which was lying on the center console. After a brief struggle, the reporting person was able to disarm Martinez, and regain possession of the handgun. While attempting to secure the weapon, Martinez fired the handgun one time causing damage to the vehicle.

Law enforcement and EMS arrived on the scene. Martinez gave investigators conflicting information about the incident.  She was transported to the hospital to be evaluated.

Based on interviews and evidence gathered from the scene, investigators were able to obtain warrants against Martinez for Misdemeanor Injury to Personal Property, and Misdemeanor Simple Assault on Monday December 31, 2018. Martinez was arrested and taken to the Iredell County Detention Center where she was placed under a 2,500.00 dollar secure bond from Magistrate D. Sanders.

After additional investigation, charges were issued for Felony Breaking & Entering to Motor Vehicle, Felony Larceny of Firearm, and Misdemeanor Assault with Deadly Weapon.  Martinez was arrested on the additional charges on Wednesday January 2, 2019. She was taken before Magistrate D. Sanders, who issued Martinez an additional bond amount of 7,500.00 dollars.
