Sheriff’s Office: Stolen property located after two flee traffic stop



Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: On Sunday, July 14, 2019, Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Deputy A. Foster was patrolling in the area of Mocksville Highway when he observed a suspicious vehicle near Long Pond Drive.

Deputy Foster conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle at Long Pond Drive and Mocksville Highway for a motor vehicle violation. When Deputy Foster activated his blue lights, and siren the vehicle suddenly came two a stop, and two black males quickly got out of the vehicle and ran into a wooded area.

After searching the area, Deputies ran the registration paperwork of the vehicle then requested the Davie County Sheriff’s Office go to the address to locate the registered owner of the vehicle.

Davie County Sheriff’s Office soon advised the vehicle and a trailer and golf cart on it had been stolen from the residence.

Deputies received a 911 call about two suspicious subjects walking in the 1600 Block of Mocksville Highway. The caller observed two males running behind the residence of 1649 Mocksville Highway.

Deputies arrived on scene where they located fresh foot prints. A perimeter was quickly established. Deputy J. Hodges used canine “Marley” to locate a track of the suspects. Marley was able to locate one suspect beside a residence.

The suspect was then identified as Barron Lee Thompson of Mocksville. While at the residence of 1649 Mocksville Highway, Deputies located an unsecure garage door. After speaking to the homeowner it was determined Thompson had broken into a vehicle in the driveway also he had opened the garage door with a garage door opener.

Barron Lee Thompson was then transported to Iredell County Detention Center where he was charged with; Felony Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Felony First Degree Burglary, and Felony Breaking and Entering to a Motor Vehicle. Thompson also had three outstanding Orders for Arrest.

Magistrate R. Imes issued Thompson a 100,000.00 dollars secured bond on these charges.
