PRESS RELEASE

Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: On Tuesday, April 2, 2019 Deputies with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office, Interstate Criminal Enforcement (ICE) Team conducted a traffic stop on an Enterprise rental vehicle, a 2017 Nissan Altima for traffic violations.

The vehicle was occupied by Daquan Blalark, who it was determined through criminal data systems verifications, is a known drug violator residing in Troy New York. During the traffic stop Blalark became extremely nervous. A narcotics detecting canine was called to assist with the stop, and gave a positive indication on the vehicle.

While attempting to search the vehicle, Daquan Blalark assaulted the deputies, and struck one of them in the head. Blalark then attempted to flee in the vehicle but was stopped. Blalark fled through the woods where he again attempted to assault the deputies. The deputies deployed a Taser and took him into custody. A search of the vehicle located ten, individually vacuumed packaged bags, of high grade marijuana buds. In total the packages weighed 10 pounds.

Blalark was taken to the Iredell County Detention Center where he was charged with: Felony Trafficking Marijuana by Possession, Felony Trafficking Marijuana by Transport, Felony Possession with intent to Sell, Manufacture or Distribute Schedule VI Controlled Substance, Misdemeanor Assault on a Government Official, and Misdemeanor Resist Obstruct or Delay a Public Officer.

Magistrate P. Tutterrow issued Blalark a 75,000.00 dollar secured bond on these charges.
