Sheriff’s Office: Man hit victim in the head with shotgun

Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: On Friday September 14, 2018 at approximately 8:45 am, Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were dispatched to the area of East Lackey Farm Road off of Highway 64 in Western Iredell County for an assault in progress where one individual armed with a gun.

After arriving and locating all parties involved, it was determined, Elmer Owen Grose had gotten involved in a verbal argument with an individual and threatened to kill him.  At some point, Grose retrieved a shotgun from his vehicle and came towards the victim aiming the weapon at him. Grose then struck the victim in the side of the head with the butt of the shotgun.

Elmer Owen Grose was taken into custody on scene. He was then transported to the Iredell County Detention Center where he was charged with: Felony Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill, Misdemeanor Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Misdemeanor Assault by Pointing a Gun, and Misdemeanor Communicating Threats. Magistrate R. Imes issued Grose a 25,000.00 dollars secured bond.
