Sheriff’s Office: $185,000 worth of methamphetamine seized during I-40 traffic stop

Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: During the early morning hours of Wednesday February 20, 2019, members of the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Interstate Criminal Enforcement (ICE)Team stopped a 2016 Nissan Altima on Interstate 40 East near Mile Marker 146 for traffic violations.

During the course of the traffic stop deputies became suspicious of criminal activity, and utilized a Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Detection canine to conduct an open air sniff around the vehicle. During the sniff, canine “Gerry” made a positive alert for the presence and odor of a narcotic.

A probable cause search of the vehicle was then conducted. Deputies discovered, 464.46 grams of crystal methamphetamine was concealed within a coat and wrapped in a plastic bag in the interior of the car. The estimated street value of the methamphetamine is 185,784.00 dollars

The suspects, Carlos Edward Williams Jr., and David Eugene McCord were taken to the Iredell County Detention Center where each was charged with: Felony Trafficking Methamphetamine by Possession, Felony Trafficking Methamphetamine by Transport. Williams was also charged with Misdemeanor Giving False Information to an Officer and Driving while License Revoked.

Magistrate S. Nicholson issued each suspect a 300,000.00 dollar secure bond.
