Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: On Wednesday, August 7, 2019 deputies with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) Team were conducting a driver’s license checking station on Shiloh Road. While conducting the station, a vehicle came through at a high rate of speed and refused to stop.
Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle by following it, however they quickly realized there was a small child in the vehicle and stopped following the vehicle due to the safety of the child. A few minutes later deputies located the vehicle abounded at the end of Clements Road.
Deputies quickly set up a perimeter and deployed a canine to track the suspect. As the canine team was tracking, the suspect ran out of the woods, with the small child, in an attempt to evade the dog, but was apprehended by perimeter deputies.
The suspect, Shelby Darrell Fraley, was arrested and transported to the Iredell County Detention Center where he was charged with: Felony Flee to Elude in a Motor Vehicle, Misdemeanor Child Abuse, Misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana, Misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Resist a Public Officer, and Failure to Secure a Passenger under 8 Years Old in Child Safety Seat due to the child not being restrained.
Fraley was taken before Magistrate T. Thompson who issued a 30,000.00 dollars secured bond on these charges.
Deputies contacted the Iredell County Department of Social Services. The juvenile was turned over to the mother pending an investigation.
Fraley is currently out of jail under a 20,000.00 dollars secured bond for Felony Possession with Intent to Sale and Deliver Marijuana, Felony Possession of Marijuana, Felony Maintain a Dwelling for the Sale of a Controlled Substance, and Misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
