Police: Two arrested after fleeing officers in South Statesville

Statesville NC: On Thursday August 31, 2017, shortly after midnight, SPD officers of the Crime Reduction Team were on foot patrol in the 5th St. area. The officers came across subjects in the yard area of 1208 5th St. Officers discovered that subjects were armed with weapons, and upon identifying themselves as police officers, suspects began to run.

2 suspects were taken into custody as a result. Officers then applied for and obtained a search warrant for the residence. As a result of the search and arrests, SPD officers seized a total of 10 weapons, some were located in the home, some in a vehicle, and some on the property. one of the firearms was reported as stolen. Marijuana and cash were seized as well, some of the currency was also discovered to be counterfeit currency. 2 arrests were made thus far.

Chief Joe Barone stated: “The Statesville Police Department has remained committed to our neighbors in the South Statesville Community. With the focused enforcement activities and the hard work of our officers regarding persons involved in violent crimes and drug dealing, we hope to send a clear message that the community and the SPD will not tolerate the violent criminal activity in this neighborhood.”

Keyon Shaqual Miller, B/M, 27, of Statesville was charged with: 3 counts of Possession of firearm by felon, Poss. Stolen firearm, PWISD Marijuana, Misd. Maintaining a dwelling, and Poss. Drug paraphernalia. Miller was held on a $50,000 secured bond at the time.

Anthony Turner Jr. B/M, 19, of Statesville was charged with: Resist, obstruct, and delay, and Possession of 5 or more counterfeit instruments. Turner was held on a $5,000 secured bond at the time.
