PRESS RELEASE

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Homicide Unit is conducting an assault with a deadly weapon investigation in the 1100 block of Sugar Creek Road.

On Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at approximately 4:00 a.m., officers in the North Tryon Division responded to the Shell Station located at 1125 Sugar Creek Road in response to an assault with a deadly weapon call for service. When they arrived, the officers located an adult male in the parking lot who had been stabbed. The victim was transported by MEDIC to the hospital where he is being treated for life-threatening injuries.

A witness informed the initial responding officers that the suspect(s) who stabbed the victim fled the scene in a white Nissan Sedan. A short time later a CMPD officer attempted conduct a traffic stop on a white Nissan Altima on Eastway Drive at The Plaza. The Altima refused to stop and the officer did not pursue the vehicle as it was not clear at that time if the occupants were in fact the suspects who had stabbed the victim at the Shell Station. At approximately 4:15 a.m., this same Nissan Altima crashed in the 2700 block of Eastway Drive. The suspects hit an unoccupied parked car as well as a power pole. Both occupants were transported by MEDIC to the hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries. As a result of the vehicle hitting the power pole, a house caught on fire a few minutes after the crash. All occupants of the house were safely evacuated without injury and the Charlotte Fire Department responded to extinguish the fire.

Homicide Detectives are working with Detectives from the North Tryon Division to investigate this stabbing. These Detectives are actively working to determine if the suspects involved in the crash on Eastway Drive are in fact the same individuals who stabbed the victim on Sugar Creek Road.

Crime Scene Search has responded to the call for service to process the scene and collect physical evidence.

This is an ongoing and active investigation. As further information develops it will be released by CMPD Public Affairs.
