Police: Man threw drugs under officer’s vehicle while trying to flee

PRESS RELEASE

Just before midnight on Saturday, January 5, 2019, an SPD K-9 Officer conducting routine patrol in the area of Salisbury Rd initiated a traffic stop for an equipment violation on a passenger car at Gay St. The driver, Ernest Holland, consented to a search of his person at the request of the officer. After an additional patrol officer responded to assist with the search, the K-9 officer approached to search Holland, at which time he attempted to flee and threw what appeared to be a pill bottle underneath the K-9 officer’s vehicle. Holland was detained before he could flee.

Officers located the pill bottle which contained over 8 grams of crack cocaine, over 7 grams of cocaine and various pills identified as hydrocodone and oxycodone. A search of the vehicle also yielded over $1800 US currency.

Ernest William Holland, 61 of Independence Loop in Statesville, was arrested and charged with PWISD cocaine, PWISD schedule II (2 counts), PWISD schedule IV, felony maintaining a vehicle and resisting a public officer. Holland was transported to the police department for felony processing and then taken before the Magistrate at the Iredell County Jail where he was issued an $80,000 secured bond. Holland also has additional pwisd cocaine, pwisd marijuana and felony maintaining a vehicle charges pending trial from ICSO.
