Police: Driver of stolen vehicle arrested after Mooresville to Cornelius pursuit

MOORESVILLE, NC: At approximately 1:53 a.m., Mooresville Police attempted a traffic stop on a Toyota passenger vehicle at I-77 and Brawley School Road. The registration plate inquiry confirmed a stolen vehicle from Statesville Police Department. The driver of the vehicle did not stop, and a pursuit was initiated. The pursuit traveled Brawley School Road to Williamson Road, I-77 south, and exited at Exit 28, where the driver traveled to Torrence Chapel Road. The driver of the vehicle jumped and ran on foot.

A perimeter was set by several law enforcement agencies and the driver, Mariesha C. Currence, 20, of Statesville, was arrested inside a neighboring hotel. Currence was charged with Motor Vehicle Theft, Felony Possession of Schedule II, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Felony Speeding to Elude Arrest, and Driving with Revoked License. She was placed in the Iredell County Detention Center with a $17,000 secured bond.
