Narcotics complaint at Iredell motel ends with 2 arrested

Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: On Saturday, May 18, 2019 Deputies C. Little and Deputy H. Pennell with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office, responded to 715 Sullivan Road, the Quality Inn & Suites in reference to a narcotics complaint.

Upon arriving at the location, the deputies made contact with Kennin Shammel Burns and Shaffon Keari Stokes. While speaking with them the deputies noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from their hotel room. The deputies also observed marijuana in plain view inside of the hotel room.

After speaking with both suspects, the deputies received consent in writing to search the room. During the search of the hotel room, they located three individual baggies of marijuana, and Ecstasy pills. Deputy H. Pennell deployed canine Brandi to conduct an open air sniff around the vehicle which was operated by Kennin Burns. Canine Brandi gave a positive indication to the odor of narcotics on the driver’s side door of the vehicle. During a search of the vehicle deputies located a plastic cup with Crystal Methamphetamine residue.

After completing this investigation Deputy Little transported Burns and Stokes to the Iredell County Detention Center. Deputy Little then charged Kennin Shammel Burns with; Felony Possession of Methamphetamine, Felony Trafficking Methamphetamine by Possession, Felony Trafficking Methamphetamine by Transport, Felony Possession of Schedule I (Ecstasy), Felony Maintain a Vehicle for the Use and Sale Controlled Substances, Felony Possession with Intent to Sale and Deliver Marijuana, Misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana, Misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana Drug Paraphernalia. Deputy Pennell charged Shaffon Keari Stokes with the identical charges.

Magistrate J. Hollar issued both Burns and Stokes a 750,000.00 dollars secured bond on these charges
