Morganton man charged in Hickory homicide investigation

PRESS RELEASE

Hickory – On August 20, 2017, Hickory Police, with the assistance of Morganton Department of Public Safety, Burke County Sheriff and North Carolina State Highway Patrol, arrested and charged Manuel Villarreal Jr, w/m/08-06-1987, of Hickory, for the murder of Roberto Beltran. Villarreal was arrested in Morganton, NC and is currently being held without bond in the Catawba County Detention Facility on this charge. Villarreal was also served with additional outstanding warrants.

The Hickory Police Department is continuing this investigation and asks anyone who may have witnessed this incident or has any information about this incident to contact Inv. B. Ollis at 828-261-2614 or bollis@hickorync.gov .

PRESS RELEASE

Hickory – On Saturday, August 19, 2017 at approximately 12:37 a.m., officers from the Hickory Police Department were called to 1752 16th St NE, in reference to a report of a person being shot. Upon arrival officers discovered Roberto Beltran, an Hispanic male, 37 years of age, of Hickory, NC in the residence suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Beltran died at the scene as a result of his injuries.

A warrant for the charge of Murder has been issued for Manuel Villarreal Jr., H/M – 30 years of age, of Hickory, NC for the shooting death of Roberto Beltran. Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Manuel Villarreal Jr. is urged to contact the Hickory Police Department at 828-328-5551. This incident does not appear to be a random act of violence.
