Mooresville teen accused of sexually exploiting minor following Dropbox tip

PRESS RELEASE

Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: In October of 2018, Dropbox reported to the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office, several images and videos of possible child pornography were being uploaded to a Dropbox account. Dropbox is a personal cloud storage service (sometimes referred to as an online backup service) that is frequently used for file sharing and collaboration. To share a file, the user can generate a URL for it from the Dropbox website, and send it out so others can view it.

Dropbox captured the information attached to the account along with IP addresses, account name, and email address. The physical address for the Dropbox account was determined to be 614 Spruce Street, Mooresville North Carolina.

This information was forwarded to Sergeant J. Lowrance with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Special Victim’s Unit in cooperation with the North Carolina Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

Sgt. Lowrance reviewed the evidence and obtained a search warrant for the Dropbox account to obtain more information. Sgt. Lowrance went to the residence at 614 Spruce Street, Mooresville where he located the suspect, Bradley Jay Pitts.

After speaking to Bradley Pitts and obtaining evidence during the investigation, Sgt. Lowrance obtained arrest warrants for Bradley Jay Pitts for five counts of Felony Third Degree Sexual Exploitation of Minor.

Pitts was arrested on Friday March 8, 2019. Magistrate D. chambers issued Pitts a 30,000.00 dollars secure bond on the charges.
