Mooresville man accused of assaulting his 83-year-old mother

Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: On Saturday, January 19, 2019 Deputy J. Young with the Community Oriented Policing (COPS) Unit, responded to 103 Pier 33 Drive Unit 214 in Mooresville in reference to an assault.

Upon arrival Deputy Young made contact with the victim, an 83 year old female, who claimed her son and caretaker, Raymond Grimes, had assaulted her in the residence where they both live together.

The victim told Deputy Young she, and Grimes were in an argument when he grabbed her by the arms and threw her in to a wall inside the home, causing her to fall and hit her head on both the wall and a table resulting in injury. The victim further told Deputy Young the physical abuse had been going on for several weeks prior to her contacting the Sheriff’s Office for help.

Through further investigation, and interviews Deputy Young was able to obtain enough evidence to arrest Grimes. Raymond Grimes was transported to the Iredell County Detention Center where he was taken before Magistrate P. Tutterow. Grimes was charged with Felony Assault on an Elderly Person. He was issued a 5,000.00 dollar secured bond for this charge.
