Man wanted in Statesville shooting investigation accused of fleeing checkpoint

Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: On Tuesday March 20, 2018 members of the Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) Team were conducting a license checking station on Lippard Farm Road in Western Iredell County, when a car approached the deputies and stopped in the roadway.

The driver of the vehicle put the car in reverse and backed into another vehicle and fled the scene. Deputies gave chase and while chasing the vehicle, the driver threw a pistol out the window. Deputies pursued the suspect on Taylorsville Highway, Garner Bagnal Boulevard, and then Bristol Road where the driver jumped out of the vehicle and ran on foot, the deputies chased the driver into a house where he was apprehended without incident.

The suspect, Tyrell Dantaye Daniels, was wanted for a shooting which occurred in Statesville on Saturday August 12, 2017 along with several other warrants. Daniels was also listed as a Probation Absconder and had Felony Probation Warrants for his arrest.

Tyrell Daniels was transported to the Iredell County Detention Center where he was charged with Possession of Firearm by Felon, Felony Flee and Elude in a Motor Vehicle, Misdemeanor Resist, Obstruct, and Delay an Officer, Driving While License Revoked, Failing to Report an Accident and Fictitious License Plate. The suspect was taken before Magistrate D. Chambers where he received a $50,000 dollars secured bond on these charges. He was also served with the outstanding warrants for Felony Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury, Possession of Firearm by Felon, and Discharge a firearm in the city limits for the shooting incident in Statesville where he received a $15,000 dollars secured bond. Mr. Daniels received a $20,000 dollars secured bond on his probation warrant and a $2,000 dollar secured bond on warrants for failure to appear on traffic charges.
