Man charged with murder in death of Statesville 2-year-old

PRESS RELEASE

On Thursday, September 5, 2019, around 11:41 am, Statesville Police Department responded to an assist EMS call at a residence in the 1200 block Alexander Street. EMS discovered Sevynn Nashir Clark, an unresponsive two year old child. Sevynn was transported to local hospital and succumb to his injuries. Statesville Police Department’s investigation led to the arrest of Mr. Jordan Hoyt Simmons (27 years old) for the murder of Sevynn. Mr. Simmons was charged Second Degree Murder and Felony Intentional Child Abuse with serious bodily injuries. He was arrested today in Spartanburg County, South Carolina by the United States Marshall’s Task Force.
