Former Statesville Christian Athletic Director arrested on more than 80 sex crime charges

PRESS RELEASE

Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: Derone Martin McNeil was taken into custody by the Iredell County Sheriff’s in Forsyth County on Wednesday, April 3, 2019. McNeill is charged with sexually assaulting a student between 2012 and 2014.

McNeil is the former Athletic Director at Statesville Christian School. He was charged with two counts of Felony Second Degree Forcible Rape, two counts of Felony Second Degree Forcible Sex Offense, and three counts of Felony Sexual Activity with a Student by School Personnel.

This investigation began when an administrator with Statesville Christian School came to the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office with concerns. Detective Patrick Dixson with the Special Victim’s Unit was able to locate the victim and conducted an interview. The victim told detectives she had been sexually assaulted by Derone McNeill multiple times between the years of 2012 and 2014. Based on evidence gathered from the interview, additional crimes occurred in the city limits, and the Statesville Police Department was notified

During the investigation Detectives interviewed or spoke with multiple witnesses to gather information, and corroborate the victim’s statement. Detectives attempted to obtain a statement from McNeil but he declined to speak to investigators. Based on the information, and evidence gathered Detective Dixon obtained arrest warrants for McNeill on Tuesday March 26, 2019.

McNeil was also charged by the Statesville City Police Department. In all he faces over 70 charges. McNeil was placed in the Iredell County Detention under a 2,000,000.00 dollars secured bond on all charges by Magistrate M. Nethken.
