Former Mooresville teacher gets 10-22 years on child sex crime charges

(MOORESVILLE – WSIC) A former Mooresville Middle School teacher will spend the next 10 to 22 years in prison after entering an Alford plea on child sex crime charges Monday.

Under an Alford plea, Charles “Chip” Pickard III does not admit guilt, but is considered guilty in the eyes of the court. According to District Attorney Sarah Kirkman, he entered the plea on two counts of first degree sexual exploitation of a minor and five counts of second degree sexual exploitation of a minor.  Pickard received to two consecutive 60-132 month active sentences.

Pickard also received suspended sentences and 36-months probation to follow his time in jail. He’s also been ordered to register as a sex offender for 30 years.
