Sheriff Darren Campbell said: On Wednesday, February 13, 2019 the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office was called to the 500 Block of Eufola Road. A forestry worker claimed to have located a body in a wooded area.
Deputies and Detectives responded to the scene. They located the body and were able to identify the person as Benny Dean Randolph II. Randolph was reported missing on January 18, 2019. His family reported seeing him last on January 16, 2019.
The family told deputies at the time the missing person report was filed Benny was acting paranoid and seeing things which weren’t there. Indications were he was under the influence of some controlled substance, and had possibly consumed an unknown substance shortly before he went missing.
During the missing person investigation, it was determined he had had broken into a home near his house around 6:00 am on January 16, a couple hours after his family had seen him. Once involved the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office, utilized Iredell Search and Rescue, a drone and a cadaver dog all in an attempt to locate Randolph with no success.
The body was located through a wooded area in the opposite direction from where he was believed to have traveled.
There were no indications of foul play, and there was no indication of the cause of death. The Medical Examiner was contacted the body will be transported to North Carolina Baptist Hospital where an autopsy will be conducted.
