Deputies: Man used stolen safe combo in larceny of firearms

Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: On Thursday September 20, 2018, Iredell County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a residence on Scotts Creek Road in Statesville due to several firearms being stolen from a residence.

The victim told deputies, Joseph Ray Lockamy had used a stolen combination code to gain access to several firearms the victim kept locked in a safe.  The victim went on to say Lockamy had stolen four pistols and left the residence in the victim’s truck.  A warrant for Misdemeanor Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle was obtained while detectives continued investigating the larceny of the firearms.

Early Friday morning, the victim reported Lockamy had returned to the residence in the vehicle and notified him of the pending charges. Deputies responded and arrested Joseph Ray Lockamy.

Lockamy was interviewed by detectives upon his arrest leading to additional charges of Felony Larceny of a Firearm, Felony Safecracking and Felony Possession of a Firearm by Convicted Felon.

Lockamy was brought before Magistrate M. Nethken who issued him an 80,000.00 dollar secure bond for these charges.
