Cornelius man crashes on I-77 while fleeing Mooresville officer

MOORESVILLE, NC: At approximately 2:40a.m., on Wednesday, March 27, a disturbance call was reported at the Waffle House, 111 Days Inn Drive. A Mooresville police officer in the area responded and witnessed a passenger vehicle leaving the Waffle House area with the operator driving in a careless/reckless manner. The vehicle did not stop for the officer and headed south on I-77 from Exit 36at a high rate of speed. The officer discontinued the attempted traffic stop and returned to the Waffle House for details of the incident.

Soon afterwards, a vehicle accident on I-77 near Exit 33 was reported to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol (NCSHP). Mooresville police officers located a male nearby. The same individual was connected to the disturbance, vehicle pursuit and crash. The driver was arrested, and the vehicle was seized. NCSHP investigated the crash and cited the driver with multiple citations.

The driver of the vehicle, Matthew J. Foard II, 38, of Cornelius, was also charged with Possession of Schedule VI Narcotics, Possession with Intent to Sell/Deliver, Maintaining Dwelling/Vehicle for Narcotics, Felony Speed to Elude, Misdemeanor Possession of Schedule VI and Paraphernalia. Foard was transported to the Iredell County Jail and issued a $50,000 secured bond.
