Additional charge for Iredell parent accused of child abuse

Sheriff Darren Campbell stated on Thursday February 1, 2018 a report was filed with the Iredell County Sheriff’s office in reference to a child sustaining injuries. Deputies arrived at the location and ensured the safety of the child prior to beginning the investigation. The child was sent to Brenner’s Children’s Hospital to care for their injuries.

Deputies interviewed the suspects and several additional persons of interest were identified and interviewed. As a result of the investigation, Taylor Ryan Parks (25) and Crystal Kay Duncan (27), were charged with one count of Felony Child Abuse – Willful Act or Omission Causing Serious Physical Injury each and given a $2,500 bond by Magistrate A. Tutterow. Additional charges are being investigated at the time of this arrest.

The female victim was interviewed a few months later and follow up interviews were conducted with witnesses and medical staff during the course of this investigation. Medical records were gathered as well.

Based on this additional evidence, Detective P. Dixson of the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Special Victim’s Unit, was able to obtain an additional charge of Felony Child Abuse Inflicting Serious Physical Injury against Taylor Parks.

Parks was taken into custody on Wednesday May 16 at 2613 Harmony Highway without incident. Parks was transported to the Iredell County Detention Center where he was processed for this new charge. Magistrate P. Tutterow issued a 100,000.00 dollars secured bond on this charge.
