SUV driver in fatal Huntersville motorcycle accident accused of driving without a license

On Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at 05:59AM the Huntersville Police Department responded to the intersection of McCoy Road and McIlwaine Road in reference to a two vehicle crash involving a passenger vehicle and a motorcycle.
The preliminary investigation indicated a 2008 GMC, Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV), operated by Elizabeth Labastide Hernandez, hispanic, female, D.O.B. 12/14/1975, of Huntersville, was attempting to turn left from eastbound McIlwaine Rd, to northbound on McCoy Rd. During this time a 2006 Suzuki, Boulevard C50, motorcycle being operated by Vincent Alfonzo Aufiero, White, Male, D.O.B. 03/16/1962, of Huntersville, was traveling southbound on McCoy Rd. when the GMC turned into the motorcycle’s path, resulting in a collision.

The motorcycle operator, Vincent Aufiero, was transported to a local area hospital with life threatening injuries and was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.

The driver of the SUV, Elizabeth Hernandez, was the only occupant in the SUV and was transported to a local area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Upon being released from the hospital, Elizabeth Hernandez was arrested and charged with Misdemeanor Death by Motor Vehicle (N.C.G.S. 20-141.4), No Operators License (N.C.G.S. 20-7), and transported to the Mecklenburg County Intake Center.

This crash is being investigated by the Huntersville Police Department Traffic Safety Division.
