Police: Speed appears to have played a role in fatal Cornelius crash

On Saturday, November 17, 2018, at approximately 7:25 PM, Cornelius Police responded to a single vehicle crash in the 10600 block of Bailey Road. The driver, Grant Geis, was traveling east on Bailey Road when he lost control and collided rearward with a large tree. His passenger, Andres Morales, was transported to Novant Huntersville where he was pronounced deceased. Mr. Geis was transported to CMC Main and remains in critical condition. Both Mr. Geis and Mr. Morales are from Huntersville. Mr. Geis is a student at Hough High School and Mr. Morales was a student of Hopewell High School.

Our Traffic Safety Unit is still actively investigating the crash, but the preliminary investigation shows that speed was a factor.
