The Carolina Panthers have re-signed quarterback Taylor Heinicke to a one-year contract, the team announced Tuesday. Heinicke was scheduled to become a restricted free agent at the start of the new league year.
Heinicke played in six games for the Panthers in 2018 and completed 35-of-57 passes for 320 yards and one touchdown and three interceptions. He notched his first career start in Week 16 vs. Atlanta and combined with Kyle Allen to complete 37 passes, setting the Panthers’ team record for most completions in a single game.
Prior to joining Carolina, Heinicke appeared in one career game as a member of the Houston Texans.
Heinicke was originally signed by the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted free agent out of Old Dominion in 2015. He also spent time with New England and Houston before being claimed by the Panthers in 2018.
