Neighborhoods across the region are holding Memorial Day services to honor those men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

WSIC news partner FOX 46 reports Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte will start its annual Memorial Day service at 10 a.m. at the cemetery on Monroe Road. Community leaders, veterans organizations, and families of the fallen say this observance is their way of saying thank you.

In Huntersville, a group is expected to gather at 11 a.m. in Veterans Park on Main Street and Maxwell Street.

A field of flags is already on display in Mooresville at the Lowe’s YMCA. Five hundred flags stand tall, representing a life and story of service. A ceremony will commence at 10 a.m. before the flags are packed up at 1 p.m.
