Emergency personnel searching for body of missing Lake Norman swimmer

Emergency personnel are searching for the body of a swimmer who never resurfaced after jumping into Lake Norman Sunday evening.

Major Todd Carver with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office says the call for help was received around 6 p.m. Sunday.  The man was swimming with a group of three other people south of the Highway 150 bridge on the Iredell side of the main channel in the Queen’s Landing area.

The group had spent the day swimming from a boat.  Foul play is not suspected.  No official release of names has been made at this time.

Multiple agencies were on scene Sunday evening as the search for the man’s body continued.  NC Wildlife is said to be the lead agency in the investigation.
