DENVER, NC (June 13, 2019) – A new location has been identified to build West Lake Preparatory Academy, a new K-8 charter school in Denver, set to open in the fall of 2019. Students will begin in a temporary location at 537 North Highway 16 in Denver. Construction on the new school is set to begin in the fall and is located on the corner of Highway 73 and Club Drive. The school is governed by the West Lake Education Foundation and managed by Charter Schools USA. Applications are now accepted for students in kindergarten through sixth grade. Grades seven and eight will be added in subsequent years. Those interested can apply online at www.wlakeprep.org.
Kimberly Alexander is the school’s founding principal. Alexander most recently served as principal of Long Creek Elementary school and has held numerous leadership positions throughout Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools. She started her career in the classroom as a third- grade teacher where she was nominated for Teacher of the Year.
