Entertainment venue coming to downtown Statesville: The playhouse

Downtown Statesville Development Corporation (DSDC) held its Annual Meeting on June 25 at the Statesville Civic Center located at 300 S. Center Street in Downtown Statesville. The following officers were approved for 2019-2020: Brittany Hill of Excel Real Estate Group as Chairman; Carole Hendrix of Opus Financial Advisors as Secretary and Carla Steele of Norris, Stewart & Ralston as Treasurer.

Four new Board Members were elected to three-year terms. They included Joe Bondi with Red Buffa-lo Brewing Co., CJ Sudman with Sir Speedy Print, Signs and Marketing, Wes Davidson with First Flight Bicycles, and Larry Schaeffer with Design Associates, Inc.

2017-2019 Chairman Tip Nicholson of Statesville ABC Board presided over the meeting which highlight-ed and recognized achievements of the previous fiscal year. The meeting featured guest speakers Caity Gordon, Morrow Gordon and Liz Petree with The New Playhouse. development at 212 S. Center Street that is slated for completion in Fall of 2020.

“Passion for arts & theatre has been core in our families for many generations.” said Caity Gordon, CEO, the new playhouse. “We are thrilled & excited to fill a much-needed void in Statesville with our new dedicated entertainment venue. We believe it will add to the growing cultural scene and will help grow nightlife while contributing to downtown business.”

The past fiscal year (July 1, 2018 – June 30, 2019) brought new investment in Downtown Statesville to include the addition of 2 new breweries, a coffee shop roasting their own specialty grade coffees right here in Statesville, a BBQ destination, a vintage & exotic car dealership, an additional outdoor sporting goods store and new boutiques to include a bridal shop and many more amazing businesses. The arts in Downtown were expanded with the introduction of the Cooper Street Art Gallery, the restoration of the Historic Coca Cola ghost mural and the relocation of Williamston, the horse sculpture to his permanent home at W. Broad & Meeting Streets. Key to Escape – Downtown Statesville’s escape entertainment & team building destination opened their remaining two escape rooms. ‘Redemption’ opened in August 2018 and ‘Under Pressure’ opened last month. This is another destination business that is attracting people from all over.
